Pros: Two speed
Cons: Reliability sucks

Two speeds on the planer are nice when they work. I have had many problems switching from one speed to the other due to sawdust getting into the gears. This requires a teardown to clean out the dust. I finally decided to just leave it in one position.
Now I am having problems with loud noise. I found that the cutter head pulley that is driven by a belt from the motor had come loose. I tightened it, but it comes loose easily and now it appears that the cutter head shaft is bent.
I don't think it is worth fixing so I will have to spend another $400+ for a different brand.
Comment to review by ToolBarn.com staff: The manual for the machine does mention frequent blowout, but it can be outfitted with a dust collection hood, which would help reduce the amount of build up. You might also want to contact the Delta Machinery help line at 1-800-223-7278 to see if they have any suggestions to get the most out of your tool.. If you do decide to fix the tool, our parts website does have a breakdown available for the Delta 22-580.
