Pros: great features, good fit/feel, good battery performance
Cons: weak gearbox, expensive
Comments:
I bought mine about a year ago and put it through it's paces... it only took about two months to toast the 3rd speed gears and 2nd and 1st went soon after. The tool worked really really well before it broke and I was bummed to find out that others were having the same troubles. However, I sent it back to Makita through my local tool guy and they repaired the tool under warranty and had it back to me within 10 days. I was pleased with this warranty service. I will be using the drill hard for the next few months to see if they have improved these repalcement parts. If I had it to do over again I would have purchased the Millwuakee V18 tools instead. As hard as I try I have never managed to break a Millwuakee tool. As for the Makita, I have high hopes for the replaced parts but I would not recommend this tool until they get the kinks worked out. I bought the 4pc kit and I am also not really pleased with the circ saw... weak power and seems to make rough cuts no matter what blade I use. Bottom line: Let makita work on this design for a few years. In the mean time buy a millwuakee and you wont need to shop again for a decade.

Pros: Very powerful and light weight for 18v.
Cons: Gearbox broke
Comments:
Had the drill a couple of weeks and was drilling with a tank cutter and 3rd gear broke. But I've had the drill about a year now and has took alot of abuse and 1st and 2nd have been ok but no drive in 3rd. It's the best drill I've ever owned and the batteries last very well, better than dewalt batteries.

Pros: light weight, torque, balance
Cons: hammer function is light duty at best
Comments:
I like everything about the drill except...The 3rd (or high speed) gear failed after 6 months, it would grind inside the transmission and the chuck wouldn't turn. At least it remained working in 1st or 2nd gear. The drill is back from the repair shop now and the technition passed along this tidbit --- "both Makita and Dewalt are having major problems with their 3-speed drill gear boxes" so as for now, I will put this replacement gear box to the test!
