Pros: Literally takes beating
Cons: No speed control
Comments:
This drill is great if you need a cheap hammer drill - perfect for masonry. But, forget it for general carpentry. I am a professional stage carpenter and I bought 2 of these for our shop. This thing has two speeds - off and about a zillion rpm, which it reaches instantly.
One guy got so po'd at stripping screws that he unplugged the drill, swung it around his head twice and slammed it into a concrete wall in the shop. I turned it on and the darned thing still ran perfectly. If I want to drive screws without stripping them, I have to use very expensive square drive screws.
I lent my to my neighbor to do some deck repairs to his home. He returned it 5 minutes later and went out and bought a DeWalt.
I don't use it at all anymore, and I'd never buy another one. In fact, it's so bad I'll probably never buy a Makita anything.
Comment to Review by ToolBarn.com Staff: Just a quick note on this review... This model of tool is variable speed, depending on how far you depress the trigger, it is assumed the author either feels this is too sensitive or has placed the review on the wrong model of Makita hammerdrill.
