I purchased this vacuum a year ago as a light weight 15 gallon thin model vacuum to carry around in my truck. The vacuum performs well with good suction. It's got the power to get the job done and handle almost any problem. The hepa filter is washable and can be blown free if it gets dirty. I suggest you purchase additional bags and an extra hepa filter. I also have three other commerical extra heavy duty vacuums that are in constant use, but are triple the weight of this vacuum. This one does perform as well and has not failed to perform. However, I did replace the hose with a commerical 1-1/2" rather then use the standard 1-1/4 that came with the vacuum. It is easy to change out because of the standard inlet. I would recommend this vacuum.

Pros: compact, mid price
Cons: breaks down after 5-6 months

I was using 3 of these at one time, and they initially worked great. Well, one afternoon the switch went on one---could only activate with accessory plug. 5 mins later that shorted out too. This happened with 2 vacs, in 2 days. Returned both, got only exchanges, and next day same thing happened. These nicely featured vacs appear great, but they run like a Black & Decker. I wish Porter Cable would choose a better made machine to put their name on.
And, the same models are now being sold by Tornado as a Tornado vac, at double the price. Avoid those too.
Comment to Review by ToolBarn.com Staff: Please keep in mind that issues like this tend to happen in clusters, especially when all the affected models were purchased at one time in one location. There might have been an issue with a batch of a single part in the electrical system that affected these vacuums, there could have been an early stage design flaw, or there could have even been some fluctuations in power at the usage site. As of January of 2008, Porter Cable does now offer a three year warranty against defects, including 1 year of free repair for even standard wear items for this product.
