- The best tool I've found for flaring brake lines Review by Ben
-
Quality Performance Features Price Value I'm using this tool to do double flares on 3/16" mild steel brake lines (note that you need to buy the correct size double flaring die to do this, or the 345-DL kit with all the dies).
Before I bought this tool, I had been using the el-cheapo-deluxe model from Northern Tool, and I always had trouble getting a good flare. Either the line would slip or the alignment would be off and the flare would be off center. I used this tool for the first time yesterday, and it worked perfectly! The flares were all properly formed and centered, and they fit great with no leaks.
One thing you do need to watch out for is any brake fluid or grease on the brake lines - it can cause the tool to slip. I used brake cleaner to clean off the end of the lines and the mating surface of the tool, and it solved the problem.(Posted on 1/31/11)
