Makita has done it again! I have owned this planer for two years, and continue to marvel at its performance. No snipe, easy feed, easy to clean, and easy to change blades. The blades are reversible, so a set will last you longer.

To make sure that the machine continues to feed easily you should occasionally wax the in-feed and out-feed surfaces. This is a good idea for all wood working machinery.

Some people complain about the amount of dust and chips that are produced. That is what the machine does! It takes off fine shavings and creates dust. You simply must order the dust collector. It is not included with the unit, although it should at this price.

I have planed many board feet of rough oak, and it has never failed me. It has a simple stop system that is used to make multiple boards a consistent thickness. It is reported to be the quietest unit on the market. That does not mean that you can hang up your ear protection, however.

I have used Delta and Dewalt units. They do not compare with this. You can buy bigger floor units if you are a professional or semiprofessional. But for those of us who are hobbyists or weekend wonders, this is the best unit on the market.
