My initial impression was of the case. The hard case is designed with two easily accessible compartments on top with ample room for the accessories. There are latches on each end to remove the top. The main area of the case holds the Sonicrafter and its 10 foot cord. There is still plenty of room to hold safety glasses and additional accessories. Along with the case and unit, it comes with a sanding pad/sheets, a semicircle saw blade, a metal/wood end cut blade, scraper, grout blade, and a scissor attachment they call Sonishear.

The tool itself is well built. It has rubberized grips to allow for secure handling while running. The on/off switch is well placed and I had no problems turning it on or off while holding. Having the 10 foot cord is really nice so you don’t have to be right at an outlet. The main feature is the accessory locking mechanism. It can accept just about any brand accessory without the need of a wrench. Lift the locking lever and turn it to open up the shaft clamp which then allows you to slide the accessory in place. Turn the lever to tighten and press it back down in the lock position. Depending on the brand you may have to loosen the shaft clamp enough to pull out the shaft base. Then re-insert it through the accessory and tighten. Very quick and easy. With the one ton of clamping force everything is nice and secure.

It has a 3.0 amp motor allowing for plenty of power and has a speed control knob. This is at the back of the handle so it can not be accidentally adjusted, but easily accessible while running. If it is going too fast for a sanding job, you can just dial it down to the appropriate speed.

This tool is easy enough to handle that my 10 year old son used it to rough out his pinewood derby car into a pickup truck using the saw blade, end cut blade to plunge out the truck bed, and the sanding pad. We have purchased a drywall cutting blade which makes it very easy to cut out sections. The Sonishear can cut through just about anything from vinyl floor tile to carpet. The metal end cut blade had no problems going through metal tubing, pcv or wood. Due to the design of the locking system, blades can be rotated to any position allowing it to be easily used in tight areas.

This is a very handy tool that can be used for more jobs then you can think of. It is priced right and should be a part of everyone’s tool arsenal.
