I bought this for shingling a shed. I've tried using a knife on a previous project and found it to be difficult, dangerous, and unsatisfactory. I looked at all kinds of giant paper cutter style shingle cutters and I was put off by their high price, and huge size. I knew I wouldn't have a lot of room to work plus I didn't want to have to figure out where to store the thing after I was done.

This thing is great. It goes through even multiple thicknesses of shingles with not trouble at all. I installed the shingles hanging over the gable edge and then ran the tool along the gable edge once all the shingles were on to trim them all off evenly. You do need a drill motor to hook this up to. I used a dewalt cordless drill which worked very well. This tool adds a lot of weight to the end of the drill motor so a heavy battery at the rear helps to improve the balance.

I had no trouble making straight cuts of shingles free hand with this tool. You can easily cut a single shingle by just holding it in one hand and running the tool across it with the other.

There was no detectable wear of the tool over the course of my project. The carbide inserts really work.

When done, remove it from your drill and stick in a drawer till next time.

I highly recommend this item.
