Milwaukee 2771-20 M18 Transfer Pump

The M18 Transfer Pump is the industry’s first cordless transfer pump with the fastest setup in the marketplace. With an innovative self-priming pump, you can connect and go quicker than ever. The tool’s flexible impeller and powerful pump moves water at up to 480 gallons per hour, generates up to 18 ft. of lift and produces up to 75 ft. of head height. As a part of the M18 system of tools, it is powered by REDLITHIUM battery packs, which deliver up to 240 gallons moved per charge on a XC5.0 battery pack. On board REDLINK Intelligence can recognize when the tool stops moving water and automatically shuts itself off to avoid dry pumping. Additionally, REDLINK provides optimized performance, and overload protection abusive situations.

I can drain a 50gal water heater in roughly 8 mins. Where I work there is a lot of lime so heaters don’t drain well by gravity. This thing speeds up my heater installs big time. Now I can have the heater drained and out before my helpers have the new heater prepped. One think to know, use a fairly rigid hose between the heater and pump because it will collapse the hose
I work in a National Cemetery where we have to dig sockets for the headstones. At times these will fill up with water ( irrigation, rain, etc). In the past we have used a hand pump to clear these out which takes a lot of time. I convinced my superiors to buy this pump and try it out. It works great. Empties a full socket in about 2 minutes, saves us a bunch of time. Keep in mind this is muddy water, I have installed window screen over the inlet hose to keep large pieces of stuff out of the pump. Before I installed the screen a small rock got all the way thru the hose to the impeller and stopped the pump. I simply unscrewed the impeller inspection plate and removed the rock. The blades are made of rubber. We are in the process of purchasing two more of these pumps for use at the cemetery.
I purchased this pump to add glycol/water mix to the solar thermal systems we install and service. I used it one time on a small solar thermal system and it could barely pump the loop. I could not get it to put any pressure into the loop. My electric pump works the best, it's just big and heavy. This is probably a great pump for small jobs with no head lift.
The transfer pump is a great tool and asset to the job site. Works very well. Only issue I have is it is very prone to leaking. After using the unit for a time, the unit randomly starts to leak near the head from inside the unit. Milwaukee has been good about fixing/replacing the unit, but the amount of time it took to repair was way too long (local authorized repair shop has to ship out the unit to another authorized location out of town to repair). I have had to buy others to keep the job site running. This wasn't even a one off event either, I have had multiple units leak the same way. I have sent for repair 3 of the units and even after repair, after some time using it the same result. Other then the leaking issue the units run great. The unit still functions properly with the leak as the leak is very small.
I have owned a nice parcel and second home on a small lake in northern Wisconsin for many years. Along the way I inherited a small rowboat that I keep tied to the dock when we are at this home. I have always used a jug with the bottom cut out to bail this boat, but bending over the boat to bail out rainwater has become more challenging as time goes on. I searched battery powered pumps and ran across this pump. After buying, I added two 12 foot hoses and a laundry lint trap for each hose. I can now empty the boat in a fraction of the time and with no sore back. Great product!
